• Death. John Heywood died on 2 Jan 1717 from an epidemic that swept Concord. He was a Deacon of the Church. He kept an ordinary, or inn, probably the same one as his father. The land on what is now Thoreau Street, was in the hands of the Heywood Family until the early 1800s.
• Background Information. 524 Deacon John Heywood was the third child of John Heywood the emigrant. John, Jr. was born in Concord, Massachusetts, 5 Apr 1662, where he also settled and lived. He died there 2 Jan 1718. In 1676, he was a constable. He was keeper of an ordinary at Concord in his later years. • From the Concord Registers - Book I. 623 "[Febr]uary ye 20th 1717/18 Whereas ye hand of God [hath] come forth against ye Inh[abitants of] Concord in a very awfull [manner] sending a very malignent [& fatal] distemper amongst us wh[hereby there] hath ben a considerable n[umber of] persons, of men women [& children] of all Qualities Sexts & ages [that] hath ben removed from am[ong us] be death, most of whom has ben [very] suden & unexpected so that from [the] last day of november last past until ye day of ye date above written hath been removed not less then 27 person Where upon I Thomas Brown senior of ye aforesaid Thown thought meet to record a cattalogue of ye names of ye persons as near in order as I can which are as followeth.
