Robert, son of Robert "le Fort" comté de Tours, marquis en Neustrie and his second wife, was killed in battle near Soissons on 15 Jun 923. Robert was elected King of France 22 Jan 922, consecrated at Geims by Guthier Arcbishop of Sens. Flodoard records in 922 that "Franci" elected "Rotbertum seniorem" who was invested "Remis apud Sanctum Remigium ab episcopis et primatibus regni" [Flodoard 922, MGH SS III, p. 370]. King Robert was killed fighting ex-King Charles, although his forces won the battle. Flodoard records in 923 that "Karolus cum suis Lothariensibus" crossed "Mosam...ad Atiniacum...et...super Axonam" where he lost the battle near Soissons in which "Rotbertus...rex" was killed [Flodoard 923, MGH SS III, p. 371]. The necrology of Chartres cathedral records the death "XVII Kal Jul" of "Rotbertus rex" [Obituaires de Sens Tome II, Eglise cathédrale de Chartres, Nécrologe du xi siècle, p. 14]. The necrology of the abbey of Saint-Magloire records the death "XVII Kal Jul" of "Robertus rex" [Obituaires de Sens Tome I.1, Abbaye de Saint-Magloire, p. 390]. The necrology of Auxerre cathedral records that "Rotbertus rex" was killed in battle 15 Jun [L'abbé Lebeuf (1855) Mémoires concernant l'histoire civile et ecclésiastique d'Auxerre et de son ancient diocese (Auxerre) ("Histoire d´Auxerre"), Tome IV, p. 15].

According to Europäische Stammtafeln [ES II 10], Robert's first wife was named Aelis, who was the mother of Adela. His second wife was Beatrix de Vermandois, daughter of Heribert I comté de Vermandois. Guillaume of Jumièges records that "Rodbertus dux" married "sororem Herberti" by whom he had "Hugonem Magnum" [Willelmi Gemmetensis monachi Historiæ Normannorum, Du Chesne, A. (1619) Historiæ Normannorum Scriptores Antiqui (Paris) ("Willelmi Gemmetencis Historiæ (Du Chesne, 1619)"), Liber II, XXI, p. 233].
