Sir Henry de Grey, of Codnor, co. Derby, Grays Thurrock, Essex, Aylesford and Hoo, Kent, &c., son and heir of Sir John de Grey, of the same, by Lucy, daughter of Sir Reynold de Mohun, of Dunster, Somerset, and grandson of Sir Richard de Grey, of the same, by Lucy, daughter and heir of John de Humez, was a minor at his father's death.
On 5 Feb. 1286/7 Sir Henry de Grey nominated attorneys on going beyond the sea, and was summoned for Military Service 14 Jun (1287) 15 Edw. I. He was summoned to a Council 8 Jun (1294) 22 Edw. I, and was further summoned for Military Service from 14 Jun (1294) 22 Edw. I to 26 Sep. (1298) 26 Edw. I. In Sep. 1294 he was proceeding to Gascony with William de Vesci in the train of Edmund, the King's brother. He was again on service in Gascony in 1295 and 1297. He was summoned to Parliment from 6 Feb. (1298/9) 27 Edw. I to 16 Aug. (1308) 2 Edw. II, by writs directed Henrico de Grey, whereby his is held to have become Lord Grey. Early in 1300 he was concerned in the arming of knights, esquires and others in Essex and Herts for the muster at Carlisle at midsummer. He was present at the siege of Carlaverock in 1300. He is seal is appended to the Barons' Letter to the Pope, 12 Feb. 1300/1. He was serving near Berwick-on-Tweed before 15 Apr. 1306, and on 1 Oct. following, in consideration of his services in Scotland and elsewhere, had a pardon for all debts due from him or his ancestors to the exchequer.
Sir Henry de Grey is said to have married, 1stly, Eleanor, daughter of Sir Hugh de Courtenay.
Sir Henry de Grey married, 2ndly, before 6 Jun 1301, Joan, widow of Sir Ralph de Cromwell. Sir Henry de Grey d. in Sep. 1308. By his will he desired burial in the Carmelite Friars of Aylesford in Kent.

Henry married Alianore de Courtenay, daughter of Hugh de Courtenay and Alianore le Despenser. (Alianore de Courtenay was born about 1266 in Okehampton, Devon, England and died before 6 Jun 1301.)
