Charles Cawley's Medieval Lands: Robert Guiscard de Hauteville was the son of Tancred de Hautevill and his second wife, Fressenda. "Malaterra names "Robertus dictus a nativitate Guiscardus…" first among the sons of Tancred & his second wife [Malaterra, I.4, p. 9]. Orderic Vitalis records "...filii...Tancredi de Alta-Villa: Drogo...atque Umfridus, Willermus et Hermannus, Rotbertus cognomento Wiscardus et Rogerius et sex fratres eorum" among those who left Normandy and settled in Apulia [Orderic Vitalis (Prévost), Vol. II, Liber III, III, pp. 53-4]."

Robert married Alberada, aunt of Gerard di Buonalbego. "Malaterra names "Alberadam" as the first wife of Robert "Guiscard", recording that they were separated on grounds of consanguinity [Malaterra, I.30, p. 22]." After Robert separated from his first wive, he married Sichelgaita di Salerno, daughter of Guaimar IV Prince of Salerno and his wife Gemma of Capua. "The Gestis Ducum Normannorum names "primogenitam filiam Gaumarii principis Salerni…Sichelgaitam" as the wife of "Robertus Wiscardus Normannigena dux Apulić" [Gestis Ducum Normannorum, Continuatione Roberti 42, MGH SS XXVI, p. 8]. The Annals of Romoald in 1060 record the marriage of "Sikelgaitum Guaimerii principis filia" and "Robbertus Guiscardus" [Romoaldi Annales 1060, MGH SS XIX, p. 406]."

Wikipedia: Robert Guiscard de Hunteville was a Norman adventurer conspicuous in the conquest of southern Italy and Sicily. Robert was born into the Hauteville family in Normandy, and went on to become Duke of Apulia and Calabria.

During his time in Calabria, Guiscard married his first wife, Alberada De Macon, known in Italy as Alberada of Buonalbergo. She was the daughter of Reginald I, Count of Burgundy, also known as Renaud I de Macon, Baron of Buonalbergo, and Girard of Buonalbergo, and his wife Alice of Normandy.

Guiscard succeeded as count of Apulia in 1057. Shortly after, Robert separated from his first wife, and married Sichelgaita, the sister of Gisulf II of Salerno. On 23 August 1059, Pope Nicholas II invested Guiscard as duke of Apulia, Calabria, and Sicily.
