Nicholas III Malmains died in 1291 holding lands at Aldwyk in Sussex, Southwarnborough and Stampshaw in Hampshire, Reinham in Essex and Sheppeye in Kent. His next heir was his son Nicholas aged 16-19 in accounts from different counties [Calendar of Inq.P.M. 3:7, no. 13]. In 1262 there were two suits in the King's Bench against John Gatesden for land in Ockley involving in one case Nicholas the son of Nicholas Malmains, and in the other Nicholas Malmains senior and Nicholas Malmains junior, from which it appears that Nicholas III was the son of Nicholas II and that both were alive at the same time [Calendar of Close Rolls: Hen. III, 12:115].
