William VIII, Seigneur de Montpellier, was born about 1158, died in Rome in 1218, and was buried at St. Peters. He was the son of William VII, born about 1130, died 1172, Seigneur of Montplier, by Matilda (married 25 Feb 1159), born about 1130 and died 29 Sep 1172. Matilda was the daughter of Hugh II Duke of Burgundy who was born about 1085 and died in 1143 and Mathilda of Mayenne, who died after 1162. Hugh II was the son of Eudes I, Duke of Burgundy by his wife Matilda of Burgundy.

William VIII, Seigneur de Montpellier married Eudoxia Comneus, who was born about 1167 and they were divorced so she could become a nun in 1202. They married about 1178/9. Eudoxia was the daughter of Alexius Comneus and Maria Dukas. Eudoxia and William VIII were the parents of Maria Dame of Montpellier.
