In 1434, John Atte Wode, wife Isabella, leased Coulsdon Manor for 20 years, for a suitable headquarters for his wide holdings nearby.

John was "Knight of the Shire." In 1459, he was called to Parliament, and this Parliament deposed King Henry VI.
