William de Roos, of Kirby, Kendal, Westmorland, was the 2nd son of Robert de Roos and his wife Margaret de Brus. William married a woman named Elizabeth of unknown heritage, and they had one son, Sir Thomas de Roos, Knight. When his Williams's mother died in 1307, he petitioned for the manor of Belchester as her inheritance, stating that when his brother joined the Scots, he refused to aid him, and held out in Wark Castle for the King, who promised him reward. He was besigned by Sir William Wallace, and forced to currender, but spared on account of being brother to Sir Robert de Roos. He refused to renounce his alliegance to the King Edward I of England, and was sent to Dumbarton Castle, where he lay in irons and starving, until its surrender to King Edward I after the Battle of Fallkirk. William died shortly before 12 Mar 1309/10. His widow, Elizabeth was still living on 2 Jun 1310.
