• Background Information: 1614 Thomas Payne, son of Thomas and Katheren (Harsant) Payne, was born 11 Dec 1586 in England. Thomas Payne was married to a woman named Elizabeth on 22 Nov 1610 in England. Thomas and his family enigrated from Wrentham, England around 15 May 1637 on the Mary Anne from Great Yarmouth. They arrived in Salem prior to 21 Aug 1637. His family included his wife Elizabeth and six of their children: Thomas, John, Mary, Elizabeth, Dorothy and Sarah. One of their sons, Peter, likely stayed in England. Thomas, the elder, died sometime around 1639.
Elzabeth lived in her own home in Salem with one or more of her children. Her oldest son, Thomas, went to Dedham in 1640. Mary married Philemon Dickerson and went to Southold between 1646 and 1652. John sold his father's land in Salem and moved to Southold, New York. Peter who has stayed in England, joined them in 1657. Elizabeth must have gone with John because she dies during the summer of 1658 in Southold.

• Background Information: 1621 Thomas Payne emigrated before the month of August 1637, at 51 years of age, and Elizabeth, his wife, aged 53, with six children, from Wrentom, in Suffolk county, England. They boarded the ship at Yarmouth, England, on their way to New England. Thomas settled in Salem, and his trade was that of a weaver. He died in Salem, leaving a will dated 10 Apr 1683, which was proved in that town in the year of 1650.
