• Background Information: 1614 Thomas Payne was married to Rebecca Ware sometime before 17 Oct 1640. Thomas left Salem around the time he married, and moved to Dedham. The records show that he became a proprietor of Dedham, 8 Nov 1640, and the records of the Firt Church in Dedham states (p. 25) that "Thomas Paine and his wife Rebecka were received into ye comunion of the church of ye 2dm. [Apr] 1641." He was made a freeman of the Massachusetts Bay Colony on 2 Jun 1841.
